If you are like me while on the road you will like to see this little corner. It’s not really in the historical center, but Faro is a small town and the spot is still walking distance from the center.
From the northern end of the main pedestrian street (rua de Santo António), walk up avenida 5 de Outubro towards the old school on the top. Turn right at rua Ataíde de Oliveira and then take a left. You will be in a dead end alley. Walk all the way to the end. And voilá.
Notice the three traditional houses on the right side. At the moment of writing two of them are nicely renovated while the other (the most beautiful in my opinion) looks abandoned.
The houses were probably built in the early decades of the 20th century, or perhaps by the end of the 19th century. Classic Algarvian town houses.
Now, if you observe carefully, you will understand that this street used to have a connection, an exit to avenida Dr. Júlio F de Almeida Carrapato. Apparently that exit was sealed by the construction of the new facilities of the Conservatório Regional do Algarve (Regional Conservatory of Algarve), built in 1992. Yeaps, what you see facing those beautiful houses and blocking the end of the street is the back of Conservatory complex
